Nivea "Primer" (...or Post Shave Balm)

If you haven't already heard the hype centering around Nivea Men's Post Shave Balm, then you might think I am a bit crackers. But, let no such thoughts cross your minds! Recently much has been said about how it can be used as primer! When I first heard this I was a little unsure as how can a man's product designed for use after shaving can be used to keep your make up in place all day? Surely it can't be that good if it wasn't designed to be a primer in the first place?

I this spotted "primer" (OK... Men's Post Shave Balm) on offer last week in Wilkinsons at £2.45, I thought that I might as well give it a try, as it's about the same amount of money I would spend on a fancy coffee or a lunch time meal deal, so what did I have to lose? When I got this home, I was asked 'Why have you bought a Men's shave balm? It's for men'. So I did have some explaining to do as it is a little odd when your not buying it for a Man, however who said Women can't use Men products?

It comes in a glass bottle so no pump, this does make applying it a little tricky, as it has a very liquid and runny consistency. I find that I am often too heavy handed and end up pouring out more than I need, so a pump would work better for me. [Nivea, could you please add a pump?]. The smell of the product is a 'Man smell' as you would expect they aren't going to smell off lavender or roses are they? But this 'Man smell' did fade pretty quick so my face wasn't smelling of musk and testosterone for long.

After pouring the balm into my hand and applying it to my face, I found that it was quickly absorbed into my skin and it didn't take much work to provide a smooth finish, on which to apply my foundation. You do only need about a 50p size amount, this does cover all of my face so that £2.45 is going to go a long way, so you really will get your money's worth.

Once applied, I did check how my make up looked after a full day at work and it lasted really well! There were some small places where my make up hadn't stayed quite as well as I had hoped, and I was looking slightly shiny in some small areas but overall I was impressed. I don't think I would use this if I wanted a completely flawless look as it didn't cover up my pores all that well, but I would use this for an everyday natural look.

Have you already tried this product, what did you think?

  1. I've walked past this product so many times, thought about it and been like 'surely not...' I guess the answer is surely yes! I'd better add this to my collection!

  2. I was really skeptical about this new 'trend' at first but I think I might just buy it for myself and see what the hype is about!
